I have managed to not get myself killed for 28 straight years!!!!! Trust me, that's a good thing. As a sort of Birthday present to myself, I'm putting up a sample of some of the new stuff I'm working on for the album. It's not titled, and it's just some guitar and drums. (and a tamborine..no.. really, it's in there..) Go here to get it and drool. Go on, get a napkin, I said free and download together. If you are one of those industrious people that likes everything in it's proper place, I have updated the samples page to include it there as well. Ok, off to the celebrating...If for some reason you cant get it to download, lemme know. November 8th, 2003: Updates to the site: Added a Forum and a bunch of styles and smileys for it, worked out the kinks. Click on the word back there to access it until i get a button up for it. Finally got around to testing the site in netscape, apparently some of you people are getting some text shifting. I think i figured out why this was happening and fixed it. Other than that, not much new to report. A review of the demo should be completed soon, which i will post online. I am still finishing the site details, but most everything is in place. Please note that I only have one rule concerning the forums, and thats no outright flaming others I I will ban you for that. Other than that, feel free to poke fun at anything/everything. Opinions are entitled, and encouraged. On the music front, I have been working on some HK-57 Material (former Boxhead guitarist Heinz' project) and some Project Deviant material. Basically I've been doing drum programming and some arrangement stuff, a little guitarwork here and there, integrating samples, etc etc. My Computer is hating all the load though, it just wants to play games, not be a studio. I've been working on concept art for the City of Shadows album as well, mainly alot of tinkering in photoshop 5.0. Well, that's it for now. Have a better one! Cyclophenia Blood and Destruction (demo) Reviewed by Nowell Marshall Clocking in at just over 26 minutes, Blood and Destruction, the first demo by Cyclophenia, showcases the eclectic talents of founding member and primary songwriter Justin Redemann. The CD opens with "Blood and Destruction Intro," featuring a lush mixture of keyboards and tribal drums, before quickly launching into the title track, a composite of doom-inflected riffs and growling vocals reminiscent of Dimmu Borgir that breaks into a chorus equal parts melody and guttural chant. "Caress of the Earth"-a seven-minute opus and arguably the highlight of the CD-begins dreamily, sliding into a heavy groove that delivers an epic doom chorus filled with melancholy leads and vocals that are by turns brutal and ambient. Moody and surreal, "Centipedes" sees Cyclophenia at its most experimental. The track continues the heavy vibe of previous songs amid an eddy of samples, distorted vocals, and mind-numbing riffs that border on trance. As Cyclophenia's most nostalgic song, "Far Beyond the Pale (of Dreams)" offers layers of filtered guitar, keyboards, and exquisitely subtle drum work (think Icon- and One Second-era Paradise Lost), perfectly complementing the sorrow-laden, almost Gothic vocals before breaking into an extended instrumental jam that threatens to reach epic momentum, then fades into natural harmonics. "Silenced," the tightest and heaviest song on the CD, represents Cyclophenia at it most aggressive, alternating between grinding riffs and searing leads overlaid with thunderous vocals and a chant-like chorus that quickly becomes addictive. Overall, this is an excellent demo, well produced and highly recommended for anyone into doom or melodic death metal. Rating: 5 out 5 12-10-2003 Little update, Went to see Dimmu Borgir, Children of Bodom, Nevermore, and Hypocrisy last night. Excellent show, my ears are almost done ringing :) For once the acoustics at the club i went to was not complete crap. I'm guessing thats probably because Dimmu's tech's took over the boards.. All in all a great show, and a great tour. Long live real Metal! 12-3-2003 Congratulations to Linda K. our monthly contest winner! Linda will be receiving a free CD in the mail shortly from us. New contests and give aways will be coming soon. If you like what you hear, hit the merchandise button and slip me $5.00. I then slip you a CD. ;) City of Shadows, Full Version HERE 01-11-04 Well, here's some news, I FINALLY finished The title track to the upcoming album: City of Shadows. If you've heard my previous works its similiar although almost seems exotic to me, due to the scalar choices made, and the liquidy sounding solo stuff. For the people who are into this stuff, I think this is a good example of the type of music I have to offer. Heavy, often melodic, interspersed with ambient keyboards. The song clocks in at a hefty 7 minutes plus. I love the atmosphere of this one, percussion, chanting, organ exotic scales, Hell I even SING during parts of it. Im proud of the growls too. May it get stuck in your head as often as I get it lodged in there. Also, I've been working on fleshing out some of the earlier works, doing some remixing, fixing little mistakes and whatnot. I've been wiritng new material too. Similar too the old stuff but kicked up a notch. Watch for new samples soon, and stay true to your roots! When they tell you not to mosh, MOSH! 01-03-04 Update: All the 2003 News is in the archive, go have a peek for that neat stuff.
